Services

Hamdard Healthcare (Hamdard) is a non-profit community health center whose mission is to promote the physical and emotional health and psychological well-being of individuals and families by offering hope, help, and healing. Hamdard was established in 1992 by co-founders Dr. Mohammad Hamid and the late Dr. Farzana Hamid as a proactive response to the critical mental health needs of South Asian and Middle Eastern communities. Hamdard’s philosophy is to meet the needs of the underserved through its comprehensive service model by providing culturally-sensitive and linguistically-appropriate services to families.

For twenty-five years, Hamdard has provided behavioral health counseling and psychiatry, domestic violence services (crisis intervention, emergency shelter, and partner abuse intervention program), elderly day services, case management, and community outreach and education. These services were critical to Hamdard’s target population of South Asian, Bosnian, and Middle Eastern patients – many of whom have experienced domestic violence, trauma, or are refugees or genocide survivors. Hamdard operates from its primary location on Devon Avenue in Chicago and a smaller site in Addison Village in DuPage County

Primary care services include family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatrics. Hamdard has a Female Muslim Family Medicine with OB-GYN at its Devon location 5 days a week. Behavioral Health services have bilingual and bi-cultural counselors and psychiatrists providing mental health services in Arabic, Bosnian, Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi. Also both sites have a Partner Abuse intervention program for batterers who are mandated to receive therapy.

Both locations offer the following behavioral health services:
  • Crisis Intervention
  • Psychiatric Evaluation
  • Medication Management/Monitoring
  • Mental Health Intake Assessments
  • Individual Psychotherapy for a variety of presenting concerns (mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse, etc.)

In addition, the following services are available at the Chicago office location
  • Comprehensive Psychological Evaluation for: Medical Certification for Disability Exception (N-648) and U-Visa
